INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE FOR PRACTITIONER, ACADEMIC AND COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION
About
IMPACT is an international, multi-disciplinary magazine (professional journal) published by Southeast Asia Research Academy (SEARA), which aims to facilitate discourse among practitioners, academics, and the community in transforming knowledge into practice. It seeks to look into regional issues in Southeast Asia and provide critical reviews and writings about the phenomena in the region. The purpose is to provide fresh perspectives and comprehensive solutions germane to the context to bring sustainable impact to the population concerned.
Specifically, IMPACT is a hub for:
-
Practitioners to share emerging, real-world issues and best industrial practices,
-
Academics to feature their well-argued and evidence-based academic insights, and
-
Communities to be better-informed and aware of the importance and urgency of local and regional issues.
Thus, IMPACT strives to spark dialogue through the collaboration and collective perspectives of practitioners and academics to increase the visibility of regional issues aimed at bringing sustainable change to the community.

Submissions
How to submit
IMPACT will provide a fixed template for authors to use. Please download it here. You will then submit and upload your work through our IMPACT submission form using the template we provide above.
Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis. We will endeavor to get back to you as soon as possible. IMPACT aims to publish twice a year, in March and September.
We request that you do not submit your work to IMPACT while it is under consideration for publication elsewhere and vice versa.
Who can submit
We accept and publish articles submitted by members, non-members, and the general public who wish to contribute to IMPACT and have a say on any SEA issues.
Topics
At IMPACT, we hope to bring together different voices and stakeholders representing the scholarly community, including practitioners, to discuss Southeast Asian issues. Articles should highlight the ways for research to have more impact or for researchers to demonstrate impact on society. In short, we accept and publish articles on various themes and topics related to Southeast Asia.
If you are unsure whether your article’s subject matter will be appropriate for IMPACT, please email our Editors entailing your article content. Our audience is researchers, higher education professionals, practitioners, publishers, policymakers (local, national, and international), and the general public.
Length
700 - 1000 words
Figures
IMPACT encourages using figures, which may include images, graphs, or charts. Figures should be high-resolution, numbered, and have a caption and description inserted below them.
For images: please attach a preferred photo (1-2) to be placed alongside your post and ensure that it is high-resolution, in landscape mode, and most importantly, licensed for reuse. Do also provide a caption, full attribution, and a hyperlink to the source, if applicable. If you have nothing, the editor will find a suitable image to accompany the article post.
Referencing
IMPACT uses hyperlinks instead of formal academic referencing references. Kindly ensure not to hyperlink entire sentences, only the relevant word or point of your argument that you’d like to reference. You may also place the URL in parentheses where you would like it to be identified, and we will link it ourselves. Links should direct readers to the source of reference; detailed reports, other pieces of research, news items, or blog posts. Open access sources are preferable compared to those behind paywalls. The maximum number of references should not exceed ten references.
Editing
Please ensure you have edited, fact-checked, spell-checked, or proofread your work. As a volunteer-run organization, we do not have the resources to provide extensive feedback, so submissions that are not up to standard will not be published.
Biography and photo
At IMPACT, we would like to give our contributors full attribution. Please include a biography (30-50 words) detailing your relevant academic and professional details to be published alongside your work. Contributor photos are optional but highly preferable, so please send us a small, colored-photo professional headshot.

Ethics
International Magazine for Practitioner, Academics, and Community Transformation (IMPACT) is committed to the highest academic, professional, legal, and ethical standards in publishing. To this end, we have adopted guidelines to which all submitting authors are expected to adhere to assure the integrity and ethical publishing for authors, reviewers, and editors. In the submission process to IMPACT, authors must ensure to comply with the following set of guidelines:
1
Authorship
Every author listed in a journal article should have contributed significantly to the work reported (in research conception or design, acquisition of data, or the analysis and interpretation of data). As an author or co-author, you share responsibility and accountability for the content of your article. Do avoid:
-
Gift (guest) authorship: where someone is added to the list of authors who have not been involved in writing the paper.
-
Ghost authorship: someone has been involved in writing the paper but is not included in the list of authors.
2
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is 'when somebody presents the work of others (data, words or theories) as if they were his/her own without proper acknowledgment.' So when citing others’ (or your own) previous work, please ensure you have:
-
Marked quoted verbatim text from another source with quotation marks. Attributed and referenced the source of the quotation clearly within the text and in the Reference section.
-
Obtained permission from the original publisher and rights holder when using previously published figures or tables, published figures or tables.
Make sure you avoid self-plagiarism too. Self-plagiarism is the redundant reuse of your work, usually without proper citation. It creates repetition in the academic literature and can skew meta-analyses if the same data sets are published multiple times as “new” data. If you’re discussing your previous work, make sure you cite it. IMPACT uses Turnitin to screen for unoriginal material. Authors submitting to IMPACT should be aware that their paper may be submitted to Turnitin during the peer-review or production process.
The Editor will investigate any allegations of plagiarism or self-plagiarism made to IMPACT. If the allegations appear to be found, all named authors of the paper will be contacted, and an explanation of the overlapping material will be requested. The Editorial Board members may be contacted to assist in further evaluation of the paper and allegations. If the answer is unsatisfactory, the submission will be rejected, and no future submissions may be accepted (at our discretion).
3
Data fabrication/falsification
All data must be accurate and representative of your research. Data sharing is increasingly prevalent, thus increasing raw data's transparency. Some journals request that raw data be uploaded as a supplemental file for publication (you can check the instruction for authors to see if this is the case on the journal you submit to). IMPACT encourages you to submit your supplemental data with your article.
The journal's editor will evaluate issues of data fabrication/falsification. Authors may be contacted to provide supporting raw data where required. IMPACT Editorial Board members may be contacted to assist in further evaluation of the paper and allegations. If the explanation is unsatisfactory, the submission will be rejected, and no future submissions may be accepted (at our discretion).
4
Conflicts of interest
It is imperative, to be honest about any conflicts of interest, whether sources of research funding, direct or indirect financial support, supply of equipment or materials, or other support. Remember to declare it when you submit your paper. Suppose a conflict of interest is not reported to the journal upon submission or during the review, affecting the results' actual or potential interpretation. In that case, the paper may be rejected or retracted.
